Neighborhood
Adjacent to the railway, the Square Kiely embraces its industrial heritage by reinventing what once was the Martin Kiely Company Ltd., a company that specialized in the repair of parts for industrial machinery and one that enjoyed financial success for over a century, 25 years of which took place at the heart of Pointe-St-Charles, a neighbourhood that evolved for over 150 years with the industrial economy along the Lachine canal. Today, a lot more peaceful, the South-West urbain district is rich in history and patrimony. We just have to think about the Atwater Market, the Georges Vanier or St-Gabriel libraries and the Corona Theatre to understand that the patrimony interest is a major aspect in the revitlisation of the neighbourhood and the preservation of his history.

The name of the project is directly linked to the name of the factory that once stood there, the Martin Kiely Company Ltd. As with many other businesses in the area at the time, the Martin Kiely Company Ltd. was family-owned. Founded in 1902 by Martin Kiely, it specialized in the repair of various parts for industrial machinery. First located at 1160 rue William, the company then moved in 1976 to its current location. In 2007, the founder's grandson, also named Martin Kiely, decided to close its doors and sell the company's equipment.
